THE CHALLENGE

We Empower Cities: Empowering women to power cities, WEC is an acceleration program powered by a consortium of public and private sector organizations to provide knowledge training, mentorship, professional networking and early stage capital to female entrepreneurs from Latin America. WEC supports women entrepreneurs in accelerating innovative businesses that also create positive impact for their employees and communities.

WE Empower is the only program that offers a series of webinars to prepare the entrepreneurs for participation in the challenge. The webinar program ran in June and July of 2019, but entrepreneurs who register on our platform still can take advantage of it, as all video session have been posted on the platform.

Conditions

We Empower Cities supports entrepreneurs by accelerating innovative businesses that are looking to grow, while also creating a positive impact.

  • Must be women-owned or led
    Preference in applications will be given to businesses where women executives hold equity, and this will also be major component of the competition
  • Scalable/Growth-Oriented:
    Ability to grow regionally and internationally.
  • Impact on Community:
    Can mean an impact on your employees and their families, the people receiving your services, or the city/region overall by providing a service for the environment, health, or resilience.

  • Orientation Sessions: August 1 – 24
    Bogota (2x)
    Medellin
    Cali
  • The Competition:
    Application starts – August 7
    Application ends – September 30
  • Finalists announced – October 4
  • Mentoring of finalists – October – November
  • Demo Day:
    All Finalists: November 12 (Bogota)
    Grand Finalists: November 14 (Latin America Ventures Summit)
  • Investments/Individual work with the winners – November to January 2020

Awards

  • Equity investment in at least five (5) finalists
  • Accelerator Program for Grand Winners, plus additional individual work
  • Targeted services that include mentoring, advisory (product, financial, business development, customer/user experience, market entry) from international experts valued at US$20k each
  • Introduction to regional and international network of investors- all finalists will pitch to them, and are likely to raise additional capital besides the investments from WEC.
